I have a funny sense that I'm missing something obvious. Is there a reason that when I place a curtainwall using the template that the curtainwall panel is located outside of the exterior face of the location line?

Check the properties for the system panel. Its sounds as though there is a value entered for "offset".
When you sketch a curtain wall, you can offset it from the pointer by specifying a value in the Offset box that appears on the Options Bar. Also you can specify if the offset is measured to the near edge, centerline, or far edge of the wall by clicking the drop-down menu.

Thanks. That makes sense. I guess I was thinking of it as a "wall" instead of as something that happens relative to a wall enclosure. But it does seem strange to me that there isn't a "make the whole thing flush to this location line" option.
