needing help about ODBC database

I can't understand how i can export Revit's data in an ODBC database, for example Excel.

I've tried to follow the instructions in two languages,but maybe is not a language problem :-((((

After two steps i lose the way : any of you has a little example that i would able to follow??

ciao Paolo, non so a quale punto hai problemi, ma...

Prima di fare l'export, devi creare il "file" in excel, poi puoi fare l'export

Se hai altri problemi chiedi di nuovo...

non riesco proprio a capire il meccanismo, avrei bisogno di un esempio da seguire; arrivo a selezionare il driver.....ma poi non capisco più cosa fare

Paolo, ti dico quello che so come lo so e spero che ti aiuti.

1. Crea un "file" excel.
2. apri un progetto in Revit
3. vai al file>export>ODBC Database>
4. clicca "Machine Data Source"
5. clicca "Excel File"
6. clicca "ok"
7. trova il "file' che hai creato nella prima(1) parte
8. apri il excel "file"

e vedrai che ci sono pagine create per ogni tipo di oggetto(e piu di ogni oggetto) per esempio se vail alla fine c'e WallTypes e anche Walls, li ci sono tutti i dati.

p.s. forse quello che devi fare si puo' fare in un modo diverso? Qual'e' lo scopo finale?

Are you sure that is faster to use Revit than to do all by hands???? :-)

Luigi i wanted only to study the problem; i saw that in a Dwf 3D file you can see all the list of the objects and i was guessing about something similar in Revit......They said me the only thing i can do is to export data in a database file using Export to....That's all!!!!
I don't know for what i can use it :-) , any idea will be very appreciate.

Paolo, I know that with that information at hand, the sky can be the limit. It is way too much information to handle though. If one can create a file that uses that information (like an excel file that pulls that information or using access) one can produce multitude of spreadsheets that will change everytime you export a file, but the type of spreadsheets would better serve other professionals, like builders, contractors or prototype owners like "Standa, Oviesse, etc."(aha, I remembered some italian chains... :) but in the USA stores like Best Buy, Kohls, Mejer, etc.

Anyways, just way too much information for us architects, (but on a side note, a lot of the use you would get out of using the database outside of revit could be done from within, but you wouldn't be able to cross reference the object types from within Revit so well)
