We have several projects with multiple phases (phase 1 demo, phase 1 proposed, phase 2 demo, phase 2 proposed, etc…). We are having an issue displaying all phases as new in a complete final proposed plan so that the contractor or building department can see all the new elements. For example, if we have 5 phases, when we show phase 5 in a plan, phase 1, phase 2, phase 3 and phase 4 no longer show up as new, but display as existing. Is there a way using Phase Filters and Phases to show, all the phases as new construction in one floor plan?

Firstly you should setup a new phase filter under Manage/Phases/Phase filter and set New/Existing to 'By Category' and set Demo/Temp to 'Not Displayed'. When applying this philter to a view everything will look as if it is the same (no differences between existing and new). Next you need to setup a filter in your view to isolate and apply overrides to the elements that are only in the existing phase. To isolate them you can either put everything in you existing phase on a separate workset or you can apply a specific mark to all the model elements of the existing phase using the 'Mark' parameter. Once you have done this you can setup a filter in visibility and graphics and override the visuals of these elements.

The trick to showing multiple phases in a single is to not use a single view, mainly because you can't.
Same goes for multiple phases of Demo.
I currently have a project with 22 phases so it's something I'm familiar with.
What you need to do it split it. Use multiple views that show only the new construction for that phase.
Then on the sheet, place one view over the top of the other.
Think old school light table.
Hope that helps.
If you want everything to show up as "solid line" and not halftone, use the "Show Complete Filter.

Thanks David that worked! Since you have all these phases layered on top of each other do you do that for all your plan sheets as well? Or do you just figure working on the Phasing part on a separate file and last so that you don't have to have so many layered views on your individual sheets?

One thing I would suggest is to NOT do separate phases for demolition. There's no need to. If a Phase 1 element gets demolished before Phase 2 starts, set up a demo view set to Phase 2 and Show Previous + Demo. Demolition itself is not technically a "phase" but is something that happens to an element.

I agree with Patrick. If you have an existing building, or even a new building that will be renovated or constructed in phases, you need not have separate Phases for demolition. There is a lot of work that needs to happen in a model that has phases. Splitting walls, ceilings and floors based upon when they are constructed or demolished is always a challenge. Adding in Design Options is another challenge to phases. Totally doable, just harder to manage and implement.
