I'm trying to edit a file I have access to but when I go to save my changes an error is created and an error report generated. What's going on and how can I get past this problem?? Please advise...Thanks

Probably a network issue, save it on your local hard drive. Once it's safe you can figure out how to put it where it's supposed to be.
My worst CAD fail was about 18 years ago saving a drawing I'd put a lot of days into on the network and it was cut in half for lack of permitted space on the network. No AutoCAD errors so there was no autosave and nothing to recover. MIS took away the restrictions as to how much work I was allowed to do afterwards.

One method that I would do is after you open the dwg do a SAVEAS and save with a new name on your local drive. Then after you edit and save you can rename it and use windows explorer to replace the original dwg.

You don't say whether the data file is being saved local or some other location.
If you are saving it to a flash drive or other removable media, or to some location like Dropbox or A360 - I would follow the advice of others and save it to a local hard drive (C:\) first - then copy it to your final destination.

AutoCAD has a complex save process and does not like anything other than standard hardware.
