Device Driver File Search Path - What's it for?

I am trying to understand the Files tab in the Options window. Can someone explain what the Device Driver File Search Path is, and when, or why I would use it?

that's probably legacy from the DOS days, when every tablet and plotter had its own ADI (Autodesk Device Interface) driver, and Acad need to know where to find them.

If you have a table, it may be usefull still... otherwise I suspect you can ignore it.
