This may have been dealt with in the past and to death, I would like to hear of any updates regarding inserting Building Specifications on AutoCAD files.

105934

Using INSERT TEXT option in AutoCAD I insert two different specification files. The one on the left, column A is formatted in WORD and AUTOCAD exactly to a "T". The specifications file on the right, column B is formatted in WORD as per the Engineer, but is NOT matching in AutoCAD.

I am coming to the conclusion that the two WORD documents (formatting styles are different) are formatting differently in AutoCAD. The Tab-ing in the AutoCAD file seems to not like the column B style where column A type works great.

The question is - if I get Engineer B to reformat their document to appear like Engineer A's document what do I say? Is this a computer vs computer thing? or is there a formatting style which AutoCAD hates??

Another thought:

The document in column A is using Calibri where column B is using Arial.
The WORD file using Arial font was converted to Calibri and most of the file appeared properly.
Further testing required ....

At least I can tell Engineer B to type their documents using Calibri for starters.

Have you tried comparing them in Word? Guessing B was never properly formatted to begin with as all the line spacing is the same. It may look OK in Word because they used spaces or tabs to fix the horizontal alignment. Just enter to numbering and spacing of an added line.

The WORD files did have "proper" bullets and numbering and not just spaces and numbered text, and as I mentioned above the fonts were different. Not saying that font is the smoking gun because I conducted a few tests where I played with the WORD formatting and would get some different outcomes. It may boil down to be that computer #1 using a different version of WORD compared to computer #2 or person #1 formatting differently than person #2 or that my AutoCAD installation is messed up and does not like anything I do.

Having said all this ..... am I working with outdated technology - does anyone out there:
- manually type specifications in MTEXT anymore?
- xref PDF of WORD documents
- ship plans with specification books
- neither of the above
- aliens?

Just throwing it out there.
