i am having this issue with text in the editor rotating to match WCS all the time
this occurs with text, MText and multileaders
if i leave the UCS set to world and the text horizontal it is normal, but the moment i rotate the text or change to a user coordinate system the text appears as such when editing , sometimes even when creating new entities.
if editing MText or multileaders, i can select "always display WYSIWYG" from the editor settings and it appears fine for the remainader of that editing session, but need to toggle again for the next session.
i have tried all different settings for MTEXTFIXED, currently set at 1.
I have repaired and reinstalled the installation, am currently running version 2018.1.1 with all known updates although this issue was occurring in 2016 (never tried 2017, too many other issues to use that release)

Try this

Edit: rereading it sounds like you've tampered with some of this, although this user recommended unchecking WYSIWYG. You may need to investigate your font style as well.

thanks for the reply,
i have mucked around with the WYSIWYG variable and this assists with the visibility of the text editor session but needs to be toggled again for the next session.
the text styles we use refer to either Romans, HEVL or ISO fonts, all of which are .shx fonts.
I work in an office with about 12 other drafties and some directors that are VERY set in their ways.
(i would prefer to only need one text font, but cannot get anyone to give even an inch) so changing the fonts is not an issue
also, these same fonts are what has been used for the last 20 years (or thereabouts) and never had a problem up untill the last few months and even then only intermittently, on a few select projects.

Quick update
i have received a new computer and was setting the UI up from scratch in case that was the problem.
turns out it all works fine until i add a customised user created toolbar to the workspace.
majority of the commands on the toolbar are OOTB but there are a few LSP custom commands that i need.
will look further, maybe start another new toolbar from scratch and add in the commands one at a time until i find the culprit.
