Is it possible to cut a section view so that it can be viewed in 3D like the plan view? Thanks,
Kay.

Yes, set up a Live Section (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-architecture/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2018/ENU/AutoCAD-Architecture/files/GUID-2C634742-AE2E-4BC8-91A9-D385D57C68C0-htm.html).

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, David, managed to get what I wanted, but I'm a little confused with the 2 ways of setting up a section - one's in the Home tab under section & elevation, the other's in Annotate, under Callouts. I gather that the former is for what I wanted in the first query, and the latter is for creating sections in sheets. Would that be right, or is there more? If it takes too much to explain, can you point me to where I can read up & find out more. Thanks.

The BuildingSectionLineAdd command is the basic command for creating a section line. While it does add section marks at the ends, they are not tied into the Project Navigator view reference system and the line between them is on a non-plotting layer. The callout tools add an annotation mark for the section at the same time as placing the line, and the annotation works with the Project Navigator view references.
