Materials in families

I changed the material of the door frame in the family editor and it looks ok in the editor but in the model view (3d) it still has not changed. What am I doing wrong?

Is it a parameter driven material or is it hard coded to the object?
Also if you change the material and not re-assign it, the material is already in the project. You'll need to adjust the material definition in the model.

Can't I just apply a new material to the family? I think I tried that and it didnt work. I tried changed the color of the material and it worked for the 3d view but not for rendered or other graphics visability.

Did you change the material appearance asset when you changed the material?
