What is the best to show a Revit model in a PC or laptop that does not have Revit installed. Its is a Revit viewer? its is a way to export Revit model that included their material to a third party viewer? Please advice. I need to do a simple presentation nothing fancy like an animation, a simple 3d orbit of the model would do the trick.
Thanks

Install the Demo Revit program on the laptop.

( Free and cannot save or print - just what is needed for this )

Thanks beegee but that would not be an option. I have to bring my revit model to a presentation and I don't have access to the laptop unitl the presentation day. They will provide the computers I just have to show my work. Any other alternative?

Cryptic Crossword.

Look into 2 cubed with almost the first letter of the greek alphabet.

The Export menu tells you all the ways you can export a file. Any format needs to be viewed by a program. Either they promise you that a program will be there, or you install it yourself.

The lowest common denominator is just exporting a bunch of images. Then you can make a slideshow using Windows tools or by throwing them into a Powerpoint file (if the laptop has Powerpoint).

The opposite extreme is coming with the Revit CD and installing it on the spot. There's the risk that something will mess up though.

In the middle is DWF export. The viewer is both nice enough and light enough, but once again, it needs to be installed.

ThanksFor those who don't speak Greek (or Cryptic) the R8 Beta supports the 3D DWF format. Give that a shot if you can get hold of a copy.
If that fails you might try exporting to dwg and then saving as 3D DWF in ACAD. Not sure how much detail/information you'd lose with that translation.

Make some walktroughs, spherical images, 3d sections and stuff.

I'd go along with this but would add a screen capture from either Camtasia or you could download a 30 trial of Macromedia Captivate from macromedia.com. Almost all current pc's can play an .avi in Windows Media. Write your script, set the capture going and go for it!

Roy.

PS I would take my laptop anyway , just in case.

Export images of views and sheets and have Revit organize them into a web site. That works well for presentation purposes.

Camtasia is such a great alternative. They have a free trial you could use for your immediate needs. I just did a quick sample...check it out.

If you can't see the video, you may need the TechSmith video codec:

I'll second this. This is what I'm using to generate the little Revit Tutorial movies I'm in the process of making. You can even save them down into a Flash format, so you could be certain they would both be small and work on anyone's computer...

Leonid, (or can someone else) can you please explain what you mean by having Revit organize exported views and sheets into a web site.

Regards, Paul.

Paul,

Its a bit hidden but under the Export Image settings you are able to select a set of views or sheets and export them all to HTML Web page format - Works Good, just have no zoom controls on the views as they are just a series of images - Good side navigation is available though
Give it a go

I posted an HTML export example of one of my little side projects here:

Phil thanks for the reply, will definitely be trying that out in the near future.

A quick note about the nice HTML exporting: it uses a .CSS file for the formatting. So the Default is the Autodesk logo and the navigation bar on the left, but with some .CSS knowledge you can edit the default .CSS and make it have any logo and formating/colors you want. I don't think it overwrites the .CSS file when you re-export, so you can even update when changes occur.

Then you can also save your custom .CSS somewhere else, and when exporting a different project, overwrite the default one with you custom one and that way keep using the same logo & formating/colors on a different project...

And there's another problem IIRC other than the fact that you can't zoom: The rendered web pages only work in IE (boo! hiss!) and don't work in Firefox/Safari/et all, so don't post them to your website in the hopes that your clients can see them... at least last time I tried this they sure didn't. Could just be something with the .CSS file, but I'm not savvy enough about that to fix it. Really should be made to work with any browser.
