Im new to revit,

Is there any way to have the verge section of the roof present as it would be built, i.e a reduced thickness. At the minute my model looks **** because the verge is the full thicknes of the roof build up. i.e 222 rafter with sarking, insulation, branders and finish, where it should only be as thick as the gable ladder and finish locally (145mm) over the verge 107053

The basic compound roof is a schematic representation of a roof.

If you want a thinner roof at the gable where it would be framed differently then a separate roof from the exterior edge of the building out would help get there. Also modeling a structure and sheathing only roof(s) will give you more accurate representation and then cover it with a finish only roof element that is raised up so it sits on the structural portion. I used Join Geometry between the main and ladder gable roofs to eliminate the "joint" line between them.

In the color image I've used one 12" thick roof for the rafters over the building, a 8" roof the the eave, another 8" roof for the gable ladder and finally a shingle roof on top of all of them. A gable ladder usually starts inside the building roof framing and cantilevers beyond so I started it inside too, extends inside of the gable wall.

I used Attach to project the wall up to the roof elements. I used Join Geometry between framing roofs to clean up the joints that are visible at first. In the 3D view with the Section Box (cutting the building) you can see how the different roof thickness interact between rafter and rafter tail.

I thought that would be the case but wasnt sure how my texture map would apply for the slate, if i split it. didnt think to use another roof for the finish. I have to say, i expected revit to take care of a lot of this stuff for you. It has a lot of god ideas but it feels like it could and should be much better out of the box. Timber roofs need ladders! why is that not an option on the roof sketch lines! The things i think it should do, are only 60% then you need to faf! Thanks for the reply.

Still easier than the framer or roofer's tasks. :)
