I'm not sure i'm using the structural elements correctly, and i've seen a lot of people having trouble here w/ them, so i'm just asking:

How do i do sloped roof structure and have it modify itself based on level changes?

I have 2 levels (among others) called bearing 1, and bearing 2,
I have 2 grid lines (among others) called A and B.

I'm trying to make a truss that will bear on 1A and 2B (in section) and then modify when i move any of the grids or levels.

So far, i've tried putting in a referenc plane, using a beam system, etc. but none of them are updating. Any tips?

Thanks!

Beam system worked reasonable for me (7.0) when roof level parameter was changed and I picked edges of the roof (with lock) and plane of the roof as workplane.

Stand-alone beams drawn on face of the roof (set as workplane) worked OK too.

In case of setting workplane to reference plane (aligned to roof face) beam does not follow roof face shape, do not use such workplane.

I tried to change base level of the roof and roof slope. When slope was changed stand-alone beams were not extended till ridges, as they preserved their length.

You would need to model roof. To have roof follow grid-level intersection line you can use either extruded roof (and align ends of sketched line both to level and grid each), or footprint roof with no slope defining lines, and use slope arrow which would refer to both levels for offset.

Please post simple examples when change caused trouble. Thanks.
