Can't change elevation elements to invisible lines

Normally I've always went into my pre generated elevations and dressed them up with details and changed a lot of unnecessary lines to invisible.
This time I'm using Design options and it's not letting me select any lines to change to invisible lines. No matter which option I'm in, I'm unable to select lines. I can't uncheck "Exclude options" because when I select the invisible line tool that goes away.
What's the trick?

Just a guess, haven't tried it, but did you try setting the VG to the Design option your trying to work on as opposed to automatic?
Again, just a thought.
