Revit 2019 - Visibility Graphics Filters not working

new job, new projects, new processes for me.
But this *should* be an easy one. It's worked in the past. And the engineer (who knows revit) has set filters up like these before and they've worked for him in previous releases.

We're working on a project in Release 2019, and on BIM360; I'm Structural. We've created worksets for all the linked models and placed the links on their appropriate worksets.

My engineer wants all the Mech to show in the view as colored red. He created a filter (and I created a new filter to test and make changes to try to get this thing to work) to include all mechanical and electrical items, and created a rule to choose the workset equal to the same name as the workset that we placed the Mech link. Added the filter to the view through VG, and adjusted all the lines and patterns to be solid red. The link does not turn red.

I can even uncheck the box for the items to not be visible and the Mechanical items all still stay visible in my view. I can't figure out what is going on. Does anyone have any insight or ideas on what else I can try?

(ergh... like I said, new company, new processes... I'm unable to attach files through my virtual desktop environment right now. Need to figure that out so I can send some screen shots...)

I was able to do it but not by using workset in the filter rules. I left the filter rules as "None" and just selected the categories.

The issue with using a workset for the filters to change the display of a linked model is; the name of the workset inside your model has to match the workset owning those elements inside the linked model.

So for example, if the MEP is using "Mech Workset" inside their model, you can create a workset with the identical name inside of your Struc model, then filters will work. Otherwise, if you do not mind applying the filter across entire categories (if it is the case these categories simply do not exist in your model) you can do what I did and just create a filter in your model, select applicable categories and make rule set to "None". Hope this helps.

This may not be the issue, but have you checked the Workset assigned to the linked file to both the instance and to the type? I have run into issues with trying to turn off a Workset that a linked file should be on when opening a model to avoid the time it takes to load, and still had the load take place. It turned out that the wrong Workset was current when the link was added, and when the error was noted, only the instance Workset was corrected (the one visible in the Properties palette when the link is selected), leaving the type Workset set to a different one, that I wanted to load. Selecting the linked file instance and choosing the Type tool near the top of the the Properties palette will allow you to check/change the Workset to which the type is assigned.

If I had to guess is the the filter that you are creating. What you want to do is filter by system name. When Ductwork Pipes and such are placed in a model they can be assigned to a system. The system overrides it from what I remember. So placing a link on a "Mechanical" workset won't and setting a filter won't affect the elements that are on a "System". I use a filter that checks the boxes for categories that allow the use of "Systems" and then filter by "System Name", does not equal "*". Apply that filter and change the color.
You'd have to get a little more creative if you needed to know the difference between Mechanical Pipe vs Plumbing Pipe, vs Sprinkler Pipe.
Just my 2 cents.

I have about 40 projects on BIM360, 10 in 2019. I'm not having this issue. But I'm also not trying to do it by workset.

Thanks for your suggestions! Though, when I tried, it still didn't work for me.

I went back in, cleared all my categories and tried again. I'm not sure what was checked before that I didn't check this time, but I finally got the filter to work as I wanted it to.

I just added a few rules as I am working in a plumbing model linking the HVAC model. These "AND" rules come in handy....now that I think about it I could probably use the "OR" to clean up a lot of our filters

You can use a compounded filter to hide certian pipes like this

If the VV is not hiding things it could be "overridden in view" and if the colors aren't changing its probably because of the systems and the filter above should work you don't need the three "AND" statements
