I am at a MEP firm and we have the Arch model linked in. We placed all out receptacles on the 4 floors. Then we got a new model today and all of the receptacles on the 2nd and 3rd floor moved for some reason. We talked with the Architect and they said nothing changed in their model. Would it be possible if the Architects used groups for all the rooms and did something with that? All ours are hosted on the walls so we can not figure out why the 1st and 4th was fine but not the 2nd and 3rd. Thanks for your help.

Nothing changed? Why did you get a new model? If the devices were hosted to something other than the wall surface they could shift. Which way did they move X/Y or Z direction? When you place a device the tool tip will display what Revit "sees" when you hover over an element. It is possible to host it to different layers of a wall, a grid etc. If people aren't paying close attention they can host devices to the wrong surface.
Can you open an earlier model and reference the previous model to compare?

I figured out that problem, but now the Architect moved some of the levels. The receptacles staying in the same location but did not move up with the level. Is there some type of bounding to the level that can happen? We attached to to the wall being faced based. We do not want to keep moving all the electric up or down if they keep changing the level heights. I am not familiar with Electrical but I am trying to solve the problem for them. Thanks in advance

Have you adjusted the levels in your model to match theirs? The host elements should be based on the same levels in their model. Your elements ought to shift up once your levels and theirs are in sync again. If people have overridden the offset for your elements then you might need to restore their default values (reload the family) or select them and enter the correct values.

The offsets are fine. I think it was an issue with the shared coordinates. This is the first time I am using it. Another major issue is I see nothing when I open the default 3d view. The camera works though. Then when I send it to the architect, they are saying it will crash eventually due to the 3d view. I acquired the coordinates again and that seemed to make everything to fall into place outside of the 3d issue. Thanks for your help.

When you open the default 3D view does Zoom Extents show the model? When a link has large extents the "center" of the whole model can offset the view from seeing it. It can also be there but so small you can't see anything. Turn off linked files in the view and see if it returns to "normal".

Turn off linked RVT/CAD in the view. Turn of Crop Boundary... check V/G for categories, try isolating a category. You may have an element that has been copied (copy/paste/mirrored etc) and it is very very far from the model.

This is so frustrating. This has never happened to me before but I have never used shared coordinates. Here is a snap of what is says is there. I am thinking it might be the section box that is not working correctly? The camera views work I tried what you had to say and still nothing. Does this help at all? Do you know of anyone I can call and try and walk me through this? I never looked at autodesk. Maybe they have a help line? I will look into that in the mean time. Thanks for your help.

It looks like the Section Box. If that's on and very large then that would explain it. You can turn it off, view properties...does that change it? Another option, zoom in to select a couple walls and use Selection Box which will turn on the Scope Box but constrained to the extents of the selected elements. I have my Revit Lifeline (http://www.revitlifeline.com) service if you're interested in the future.

We really need to resolve this by EOB on Monday. Are you able to get in our computer and look around while we talk or is this something I send you files and you look that way at first? I really think we will use your services this weekend or Monday if you have time. I just need to talk to the owner first. Thanks. Chad

I think we will need your services. Will you be available over the weekend or sometime on Monday day? Do you get in our computer and look around or do I send the files directly to you? I need to talk to the Owner first of course but wanted to get this lined up before I talk to him. Thanks.
