Never been one to use keynotes a ton but now that I'm giving it a go with my custom keynote database. I have drawn in some items on a residential remodel with detail lines. Like custom sliding shower doors, which I would like to tag for keynotes. Is this possible, or is there a workaround for this?
Thank You

No, Model and Detail Lines are not full citizens in Revit. They don't represent real world elements assigned to Categories. Lines don't have any properties to tag or keynote. Only families can be tagged and have a keynote tag.

For things that are represented simply as a line, like a control joint on the surface of a wall for example, the usual technique is to use Generic Model Line Based (3D) or Detail Item Line Based (2D) families. They are easy to make. Many of the stock Detail Item families are already Detail Item Line Based families...have a look at the plywood, gyp board, and other families.

I often use Drafting views to display schematics. Keynotes won't attach to normal lines in a drafting view as previously stated. However they will attach to a detail item family. So I created a small generic annotation family that I placed inside a Detail item family. When I need to add a keynote to the Drafting view I place the Detail item family, using the Detail component under the Annotate menu, where I want the keynote to attach and the keynote will attach to the family and work as normal. The size of the generic annotation is such that it is barely noticeable.
