View Full Version : Profile Line Weights

Is it possible to have differing line weights in a single profile?

For example, a base board profile might have a thin line weight for all edges (back and bottom) that come in contact with the wall and floor while all other edges might have a wide line weight.

I am unable to figure out how to do this in Revit.

A resulting section and/or detail view would show the line weights the way I learned to render them. The "cut envelope" of the detail would display the widest line weight.

Now I use a combination of the line tool and drafting lines to achieve the desired results, which of course takes more time.

Is it possible to have differing line weights in a single profile? No - profiles are defined with profile lines.

Now are you concerned with a 3d view
thin line weight for all edges (back and bottom) that come in contact with the wall and floor or elevation and plan views? Depending on the profile there could be a work around.

In example, a wall sweep generates a object style called " base moulding wall sweep". This object gives you the options to control the cut and projection pen weights. The material used also shows a hatch pattern. Depending on the profile, you could generate a hatch pattern to match the profile (in elevation - not a hard thing to do for horizontal lines).

A second option would be to use Martin's structural line trick to "hold" details and perhaps a model line at the locations you need. The problem with model lines is that they will show in ALL views, but you could define different object styles with varying pen weights and control the look and visibility you want that way - A good bit of work to start, but if you use it often it might benefit you.

I think you may need to look into object styles and join geometry. I attached a project that shows the differences and uses. (Anyone wishing to add to my limited knowledge, please do so.)

I have a question about the appearance of lines in elevation for Revit profiles. We have created a door casing profile that we use as a sweep to make cased openings in our guestrooms (hospitality interiors firm). In elevation the sweep looks like it has vertical thin lines (see attached jpeg file). I would like for the casing to just be solid white - but it looks like it has a hatch.

Has anyone encountered this problem? Or know how to fix it? Thanks.

Looks like you've got a surface pattern applied to the material on the trim.
