View Full Version : What is the deal with these levels?

My levels aren't showing up in all my elevation and section views. If I drag the crop boundary way over to one side, they will show up, but if I drag the level extents over to where my elevation is, then drag the crop boundary back to where it was, the levels disappear again. I see a little open circle in the middle of the level line, is that the 3D extents thing? If so, how do I change it? The Propogate Extents button doesn't seem to do anything, either.

Do you have any scope boxes?

Nope - threw mine away after I mounted the scope on the rifles..
sorry couldn't resist - also turn on the show crop region in the elevation gives you some idea where you are...

LMAO
I just remembered I had this same problem when I started my project, you need to go to an overall elevation and stretch your levels all the way past the building (making sure they are set to 3d) This will make them show up in all views

From the help file, this should help....
Datum Extent Controls
Select a datum and it is selected in all views in which it is visible. Notice that there is a control titled 3D that displays at the ends of the datum. With the 3D designation, the datum is in model extent mode. This means that if you drag the control to resize the datum extent, it changes the extent of that datum in all other parallel views, provided those datums also have the 3D model extent control.
Notice that when you drag the filled circle, the open circle remains. This is showing where the model (3D) extent is. If you want to return to that extent, right-click on the datum and click Reset to 3D Extents.

I read all that in the help file, but there is a problem, when I select the levels, I don't see any 2D/3D controls. I was mainly having this problem in a building section and associated detail callout. I had to stretch the crop region wayyyy over to see the levels, and then when I pulled the levels over to the section drawing, and then pulled the crop region back to where it was before, the levels disappeared again. In the middle of the level line, there is this little open circle that I guess is the 3D extents or something, and unless the crop region extends around that, the levels won't show. But I can't figure out how to move that little circle in the middle of the level line. The Propogate Extents button doesn't seem to do anything.

Patricks,
You may be experiencing the same issue I'm having. IF you started your project file in a version previous to version 7, this is a known issue. Contact RevitSupport@autodesk.com and they can fix your project file very quickly.

You won't get the 3D/2D extents icon to appear in a non-parallel view... Have you rotated your project relative to north?
As you'll need to have a section or elevation that is parallel with true north/south and true east/west in order to manipulate the 3d extents.
HTH.

This project was started in version 6, and it was also started with North pointing down in plan for some reason. I roated the whole model around last week, and then set True North to be 4.35 degrees off of Plan North, so that the model would align with existing buildings on the site.
In some views I see the 2D/3D toggle, and in others I don't.
I just want the levels to display as they should within the crop region of my elevations and building sections.
Truthfully I would like to just turn off the whole 2D/3D thing so I could just set the levels to display in each view like I want them.

I'm tellin' ya. Contact support. It sounds exactly like what I experienced.

I agree with glatzke, contact support. I had the same problem and it was due to the building being very far away from Revit's origin. If you had linked in some DWG content using shared coordinates or origin-to-origin, that could be why the datum markers are misbehaving.
I've determined that the proper way to start a new Revit project with survey or other data in DWG format is to go center-to-center first. Move and rotate the DWG so that it's set in your desired "project north," then use the Acquire Coordinates tool to set Revit's coordinates to match those in the DWG. All will be happy after this procedure!
