As I said before, I am a new user and having a problem with stairs. I have a residential home that has a 2 story open area with a walk-way running over it. I have L-shaped stairs with walls along the right side and open to the left. The tutorials I have only show a a straight run and a exit stair for commercial. How can I get started on this? I already cut the second floor out all away around and need to start the stairs and balcony railings.

Create the Stair using Run. Click once for the start of the first leg, click again for the end of the first leg, click again for the start of the second leg and click finally for the end of the second leg and stair. I recommend laying out ref lines in plan view, in order to snap at thought-out locations, rather then trying to guess each click. Hope that helps.

OR...

Instead of the run method, try the boundary/riser method.
Start by drawing the left string, then the right string can be created by offsetting from the left (or right fist, it's up to you but remember to draw the string from bottom to top of stair or you will need to reverse the stair later).

Now draw in any risers you know the position of eg. where the stair turns you will have a known riser that forms the 1/4 landing (see image 2).

Use the offset command to generate the remaining risers.

Trim the first and last riser to the boundaries.
Split the boundaries at any changes of vertical direction eg where a flight meets landing (see image 3)

Finish the stair.

This is a little more involved than the run method, but once you master it you will have enormous flexibility in your stair design.

Roy,

Looks good except I had to change one thing to make the inside rail line up. That is to remove the bottom step on your second run and place it either at the top of the run or at the bottom of the first run. Without t his change it won't work for me. Am I missing something or did you forget to include this step?

Well Spotted.
If the risers meet at the exact same location then there is a gap between the ends of the railings. You only need move the second flight riser 1mm to avoid this if you do not want an extension to the landing.

Just remember the boundary line = the inside of stair stringer, and the railing defaults to the srtinger position but you can edit the railing manually eg if you would like to extend the railing at the bottom/top.
