I reduced the size of the section tag and this detail tag, now there is a gap between the tag and the section line as shown in the image attached. I know it has something to do with the fact that it is smaller than the original but i can not figure out what controls this.

check where the reference planes are in the family.

Also, note that when you start to edit the existing family, the references lines may not have been turned on.

The RP to the right of the symbol is the "base line ". Once you have adjusted the size of the symbol, move it to align with this base line, then the tag line will join correctly.

Originally I adjusted the linewrok but left the referance planes where they were. When I noticed the gap i went back and moved the referance planes in even withthe edge of the newly placed lines. I still have the issue with the gap.

Take a look

No, don't move the reference planes, ( at least the "base" line must stay where it is ) move the section head.

That took care of it. Knowing that the right RP is the base line makes all the difference.

Thanks

I was just trying this and I think a more detailed explanation is in order. The Right RP creates an imaginary (invisible) origin point for the section head. Finding this once it is gone takes some tweaking. But assuming it is in the appropriate and original location adjusting the section head to this origin point should be easy. Finding that point is the trick. That point is where the tail attaches.

What about the text though. I found if I move the tag to the right refrence plane, the teaxt in the tag gets hosed - when the section line is to the left the tag lable is outside the tag. When the section line is to the right the lable looks fine. This is MADDENING.
