View Full Version : I'm getting really confused on Project North/True North...

I don't know why I always have probs when it comes time to do the site. Can someone give me some insite here please?

I have imported my survey, made a topo based off the topo lines, no problem...I have my site set to True North.

Now when I go to the floor plan view, the elevations are off kilter with the plane I want to design my home on (look at right side window below, looks like I need to rotate it clockwise about 15-20 degrees.) I have the other views than the site at Project North.

I am wanting to design the home with my walls perpendicular to one arm of the property boundary.

So here's the prob:
When I rotate my Site plan to where I need it, it's not showing "True North".
On the other hand, if I rotate my floor plan to where I want it, then it screws up the Site view.

What am I doing wrong? The last few jobs have been non issues with this as I didn't have to do a grading plan, etc so everything seemed to go very smoothly. I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing, I just can't figure it out.

I've attached a pic to try to help see what's going on...the right hand screen should be straight up and down as far as that left boundary goes so that I can start designing...

sigh

Any help would be nice, thanks.

Set the site plan as you want it in a floor plan that is set to project north. Open a site plan view, set to true north, and select the option to reorientate project/true north. It will look like you are using the rotate command and you will be able to drag the origin of rotation in the same way. Rotate that view and when you switch back to your floor plan it should still be orientated as you want it. I think this one ios quite well explained in the help files, but you have to run through it two or three times before it sinks in.

I feel like such a fool, Thanks Peter!!!! I have been rotating my elevation tags for the last year :screwy: This was like another Revit Revelation (Love it when that happens)

Haha, well good thing I got stuck on this again then eh?

THanks Peter.

What was confusing me is that my underlay of the site was also rotated but now that I sit back, do as you had said, take a deep breath and let it soak in for a few, it makes sense. Lol. thanks again.
