Would be nice to have the icon toolbars set up along the side as auto hide tabs (as an option per toolbar) ...when you place the cursor over the tab it will expand the tool bar out (similar to the properties). This would increase the screen size for the drawing area. I know there are things like clean screen and Full screen under Express tools, but you are limited with the results. My suggestion would allow you to chose which toolbars you want fully displayed and which ones you want to auto hide.

Alternative/additional option:

To have all the icon toolbars displayed you need/want on a separate window (like command prompt) ...then clicking a mouse button (a mouse that has additional customizable buttons) or a F key to bring up the "toolbar window".

As a work around, look into using tool palettes. You can set up commands on your tool palettes, and tool palettes have auto hide

I don't know which version you are using but in 2006 there is a new "workspace" feature that allows you to quickly switch between different screen profiles. For instance, if you are working in 3d and need 3d toolbars and nothing else you can set up a workspace with just those toolbars. If you want to quickly switch back to use some 2d toolbars you only need to select another workspace that you have customized and it will switch you to a "2d workspace" and your 3d toolbars will disappear in only a click of the mouse. I believe this new workspace function would be what you are looking for.

For 06 users, place some commands in the tool pallete.
Also, use the PGP file to create keyboard shortcuts, thus
eliminating the use for so many icons.

Tool palettes are the way to go. Several of my users have all but eliminated they're toolbars from the screen by putting the tool buttons on the tool palette.
