I just stumbled on a quick way of finding areas in Revit like the area command in Autocad.
Use property lines, draw lines around the area and finish the sketch, right click on the lines and go to properties, the area is shown.

Good tip Kim!
This method hadn't occurred to me before. Sometimes it is a bit of a pain to go through the trouble of creating and then deleting an new area plan just for a quick area measurement.
Great tip! No more exporting to AutoCAD and using polylines.
Thanks!

You can do the same thing with room separation lines and drop in a room tag to get the area.
One advantage of using property lines in 8.0 however, is that you can quickly convert to a table and add a closing line automatically.
