Since there is so much "dimensioning in paper space vs. model space" debate being discussed inside the forum, I think Autodesk should address this particular issue and look for a better way to do dimensioning, maybe a "hybrid" dimensioning system where you can take advantage of the best of both methods. It must be as intuitive as dimensioning in model space, but with the advantages of having a constant size for the dimensions, and, therefore, decreasing the number of styles and layers used to do annotation like in paper space. It's up to Autodesk figuring out exactly what the best approach to do this is. But I'm sure they could solve this issue in a creative manner.

This technology is being used for labels in some of the vertical Autodesk products. I am not sure about dimensions but it is being done with labels and leaders. All labeling is done in model space. The labels then resize and rotate based on viewport scale and twist angle. There's no reason they shouldn't bring this technology to core AutoCAD in the future.
