Just in case you all didn't know.
They take forever to to create. They are fun to play with and I like them, so if any of you are creating some DWFs and it seems to freeze Revit just let it go for a while...

I have a project that is over 1000 ft long and model size is around 67MB. And to export to DWF took about 4 hours. And that was with almost all of the modeled elements...

So i set it to export to DWF and go home and i get a nice fancy DWF in the morning!
Just be patient.

What size was the DWF?

2MB...

I just sent it on to our Design/Build contractor to get their take of it too.

Interesting. I have a building that's 1776' tall (about 72Mb) and exported to 3D DWF in only a few minutes. DWF is 1.7Mb. No linked RVT's though...shucks.

I'm not sure how relevant file size or building size is. The question I need to ask of both Galen and James is how many drawings were created in both those files? My guess is that the number of links and the number of sheet views created determine how long the file takes to create and affect final file size.

Galen, how workable is the DWF file when you open it in the viewer? Does it switch between views fairly quickly or is the whole hyperlink approach frustrating because of time issues?

Really, can we see it?

Show off... let's knock of the antenna and we can talk... Just kiddin..

James, I was going to ask what your times were on export and if they had been that long. Obviously not. Now i am bit intrigued. The extreme time to export seems constant here. Different machines... smaller projects too.. some smaller projects had 30 minute exports.
Just this biggun of mine took the longest.

HCSL - Actually i was talking about a 3D export. I haven't done a complete 2D export of the sheets, we only have about 70 architecturally. But i was planning on it.

This is exactly the kind of file transfer size and simplicity Autodesk needs from Revit To Viz. If they could use this translator to Viz we could actually use Viz.

I know its only an 8mg file, but it only took like 5 or 10 seconds. .3d view. . . .What kind of system are you running?

I've been finding that the 3D DWF creation is quite quick, even quicker than exporting a DWG of a sheet.

3D DWF export goes real fast here.

Well maybe its just us here. Which is really odd to me. Could be the structural elements i am using? The furniture? Thats all part of our 68MB Revit file... Heh, maybe i should check with support.

BTW i am running dual Xeons 3.2Ghz with 3GB of RAM... and using a Nvidia Quadro FX 1300 vid card. Thats no slouch there.

I'll let you know if i find something. Thanks all

I would recommend upgrading to a V8 with forced induction & running alcohol. . .if you go much more than that, you might have to upgrade your CPU fan too!

I did mine on my stock IBM T40 ThinkPad (Pentium M @1.5Ghz with 1Gb RAM). The 4-door sedan of laptops!

So to close up this issue after talking with the factory...

Do not try to create an 3D DWG (or 3D DWG for that matter), if your AccuRender Resource Location is somewhere on your network. Make sure that is set to a local drive.
Once i did that, 2 minute 3D DWF.

Turns out it was just a little bug

If you can switch it back to network location afterwards to connect to libaries for rendering.
