Printing Mulitple Sets of Drawings - COLLATE ?

HI all. I am a converting ADT user and am wondering if REVIT can collate drawings when multiple sets are printed.

We do residential design and often print 10 sets of drawings (11x17 - Laser printer). ADT added the collate feature a couple of releases ago, and it was the biggest time saver for us. No more putting sets of drawings together on the board room table !

I have not found anything in REVIT that allows us to print this way.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

In the Options group box, specify the number of copies to print and whether to print a view or sheet set in reverse order

However that does not achieve what I need.

Doing what you suggested gives me 10 copies of page 3, 10 copies of page 2, 10 copies of page 1, and I still have to assemble them into sets.

ADT actually printed each set at a time (ie pages 3,2,1,3,2,1,3,2,1 ... etc.) All we had to do was staple them together - simple.

I always had to hand collate everything, unless you first print everything to a *.pdf and then put all of the indivdiual sheets into one pdf file (in order and delete the single sheets) and print them mutiple as you like. all and all we are talking about a 45 second operation depending on the size of the set. Pdfs seem to spool a lot faster on our plotters than either Revit or "Caveman AutoCad" anyway, and it is nice to have a pdf backup set of each plot that goes out anyway so you kill three birds with one rock here. I think it is sexy anyway... Doesn't everybody do it this way?

Some printers have this feature as part of their custom drivers. I would think almost any 11x17 laser would.

From the Revit help file:

"In the Options group box, specify the number of copies to print and whether to print a view or sheet set in reverse order. This means if you have a large print job, you do not have to collate manually."

I haven't tried it but it sounds like what you are looking for.

I agree. This would be a nice added feature. I, too, have always had to hand-collate sets. If anyone already knows how to do this directly from Revit, I'd like to know how. Currently, I'm creating a multi-page pdf and printing from it with the collate feature turned on. However, that doesn't seem to be very Revit-ish.

You can collate a PDF file of multiple sheets to any printer or plotter. Would be nice to have the collate feature for DWF files.

I didnt' think of the PDF solution. That will probably work for now anyways.

Creating PDF right out of the drawing file is something that ADT didn't have.

Nor does Revit anymore, they replaced it with the DWF file format. You can get an add on program that will work. They have many FREE or rather cheap alternatives. I use Acroplot Pro which is quite expensive; but offers many capabilities.

Not true Ed,

PDF is still there in RB8. Its just no longer supported by Autodesk in the event of problems. Some people have experienced problems with the resident pinbush pdf driver and that means they need to install alternative pdf writers.
