I am working on a 2 story residence with verticle wood siding. There are cantilevered floors all over the place but alot of the walls stack ok. When I created the model I drew it as if I were building it. The walls sit on top of the floor and stop aty the top plate. I only say that because a previous employee would balloon fram everything. Anyway, because the siding is 1" thick and the floor perimeter stops at the edge of framing, in elevation shows a gap in the siding. I tried filling in the gap with a "wall" of siding around the perimeter edge of the floor. The problem is the verticle lines of the siding are not lining up from upper floor to lower floor or in between. View attachment.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure that the pattern lines for siding are model lines and not drafting lines. Then you can select the pattern line by tabbing until it is selected and then move as necessary or even easier would be to align with other pattern using align tool.

Have you tried going into the wall properties and modifying the finish in section view so that it inst constrained? Once you unconstrain the finish you can pull it down over the floor framing. If there is still a line between the finishes just join them and it should read correctly. The finish will also be shown continuously over the floor in section.

Here is a video that will explain the procedure if you are not familiar with it: http://www.avatechsolutions.com/training/elearning/techtips_action.asp?sgid=2

Scroll down the page till you find the tip called "Revit - Modifying a Wall Family." It is kind of old but the main procedure of unlocking the layer is still valid. What you can do now with Revit 8 is adjust how far you want to extend the layer by setting the instance parameter "base extension distance".

Thanks Beegee, I wasn't sure how far it went back but I was certain it worked that way in 8.0.

Thats OK, just clarifying. Anyway, I hope there's no one using anything earlier than 6.0 :!: :o

Thanks for your help. Both of those suggestions really helped me. I'm on 7.0 and it does work.
