I now have the correct revit 6.0 license for FLEXlm and everything registers just fine between the servers (I'm running the redundant model) and the enquiry in LMTOOLS shows that licenses are available, but when I launch revit it cant find any of the servers, the only way I can get revit to work is to point it to the license file (entering the server name does not work), but it won't retain this information I have to select the license file each time revit is launched??

Any suggestions other than leaving revit running all the time

thanks

P.S. here is what the enquiry says (I 'x'ed out some numbers just in case they are secret numbers)

I can't help you but I am interested to know what is deemed the best way to implement Revit 6. I have two licenses, one not in use at present. I wish to instal on two machines in the office, maybe have an external party use Revit on my license from time to time and also be able to run Revit on my laptop. The office machines may be used while other licenses are out, i.e. if I check out a license to an outworker.

I think that the network license server is probably best for me, with the license file on a floppy or a USB keyring drive. That way I have greatest flexibility over use patterns between the two licenses but I have heard that the network license server is not the easiest beast in the world. Does it have a high machine overhead? I would probably stick the license server on a semi-redundant machine that does fax service and such at present rather than on a workstation. Will that cause a problem?

Hi Peter,

The nice thing aboout the network license manager is you can install it on more computers than you have licenses for, but you can only run one copy per license. So if you have 10 licenses you can install it on 20 machines, but you can only use 10 concurrently.
The network license manager also supports checking out a license, but I haven't tried this feature yet so I don't know the specifics. I do know that if you check out a license, that license is no longer available to use on the network until it is returned or expires.
I have had really good luck with the license manager, it seems to run fine until I mess with the licenses. There are 3 different modes it supports: Single server, Redundant (3 servers), or distributed (many servers) each has its strength and weakneses you will have to decide which works best for you. I don't think that running a fax service on the same machine as the license manager will be a problem as long as they don't use the same ports.

Good luck
