Hi All.
I am not sure if this is posted under the correct catergory but there seems to be the most activety here so hopefully you can all help me.
I am working on a file that is 100mb in size and my pc is taking some serious strain. The file is worksetted.
I have a semi decent pc with a P4 3.0GHZ 2 GIG Ram and a 256 Graphics card.
What pc's do other people have that are working rather large files?
What is suggested for large project files?
Thanks in advance.

Thats about right, revit just runs slow when projects get bigger. There are many threads on ways to improve performance. The biggest is the use of selective open(only opening the worksets you are working on). There are issues with area boundary lines, wall sweeps, etc that all start to slow your model down.

Thanks for your reply
How do people work when it takes 8min to save a file and more than a minute to view a camera (3d view ) that has only shifted slightly. There has got to be someone who has experienced the same problems and how did they solve them. I have basically achieved nothing today.

I'd have to say that is unusually poor performance, not unheard of but still not very good, depending on the nature of the project.
I recently heard someone experimented with placing their central file on a different server within their domain and had radical improvement in performance. I personally find it hard to believe that two "identical" servers in the same environment would perform radically different and am waiting for more convincing evidence to explain the result. There must be something different about the two servers and how they are connected to the network that makes it so. Can't hurt to try it for yourself though.
I'd contact support and get your project to them to analyze the file. They are very interested in and aggressive about performance issues and it sounds like your file would be very helpful to them. How large is the file by the way?

8 minute stc centrals are common when people are really cranking away. To deal with these you need to staggar you saves, watch out for the lunchtime save and the end of day saves. Try to schedule your saves so you don't have the situation where everyone is just starting at a screen that say waiting for central file to become available. Save when you have to use the restroom, or need a break.
Your local saves should not be 8 minutes, if they are there is an issue.
Hate to say it but sounds like hardware issues.
1. is your network on 100mbit or 10 mbbit ?
what is the server details ?
Some companies make the oldest computer their server !!!!! hence poor performance etc
I went from a pc spec like your to a AMD 64 3500+ and I say the performance go up.
if you have good budget, then go for AMD FX55 chip, it will make a world of difference
also investigate the network it self, maybe installing a 1000mbit would be better for you guys.
