View Full Version : Export to dwg of rotated views not working ?

My first Revit project (and our pilot project with Revit ) was just converted to version 8.
The first impression was very much OK (for example I was surprised that the speed was better when saving to central or when making elements editable - or is it only 'cos recreating the fresh local files - I don't know).

But one problem was faced today:

When exporting to dwg a sheet with rotated view (made with view properties) the rotated view is disappearing (only the title left). Export was made to a single file without XREFs.

Is this a bug or user error ?
Is there any kind of work around ?

(I suppose this is same with version 7 also.)

Reviving this thread because I have had the same issue with Revit 8.1 - a sheet with a view rotated 90deg when exported to a single AutoCAD 2000 dwg file results in the Modelspace going AWOL! :x

Is this a bug? Any work arounds?

EDIT: please don't tell me to use Revit 9 and it will all be OK... I will be using Revit 9 for new projects but this is a mammoth one and I am not going to upgrade it! ;)

Nobody got any experience of this at all? :| Or nothing to say about it?

It's definitely a problem! Even in Revit 9. The only work around that I know of (if you absolutely have to export to AutoCAD) is to export the view itself (I'm going to refer to it as Wall Section A), the rotated individual view. You've already exported the sheet without the info. Open that sheet dwg and insert the new good view (our newly exported Wall Section A)into, in your model space on the sheet. Then create a viewport, and rotate the viewport. To do that, make sure you are on a layout tab.
Double-click within the viewport whose objects you want to rotate.
Make sure that the current UCS is parallel to the plane of rotation (the UCS icon should look normal). If the UCS is not parallel to the plane of rotation, click Tools menu New UCS View.
Click Tools menu New UCS Z. To rotate the view 90 degrees clockwise, enter 90. To rotate the view 90 degrees counter-clockwise, enter -90.
Click View menu 3D Views Plan View. Click Current UCS.
The entire view rotates within the viewport. You may need to respecify the scale of the viewport.

We try to avoid rotating views in Revit because of this problem. But it's not always avoidable. If we can fit a long wall section on a sheet by splitting the section view, we do that instead.

Thanks Rachel. I think I'll report it to Autodesk Support. Your work around makes sense but for the most part I don't have access to a copy of AutoCAD!

 I was sitting at a client yesterday who needed exported dwgs of my model in a hurry,
So in our typical blase', nothing can be wrong with Revit way, I shrugged my shoulders to start the process. A boardroom full of people were so impressed that not only did I have a working 3D model, perspectives AND construction docs in 1 file, but I could export so casually.
As I am rambling on how Revit will export to dgn files etc, I thought I should just test one file.
The exported views were specifically the detailed sections, which were of course ...rotated (sounds like the start to a horror movie) when i exported, the dwgs looked like a flatline chart!!!!!
Needless to say, I quickly rotated all the views in Revit exported to Acad, but had to cut the bottoms off all of the exports
Attached RVT sheet in jpg format and model view in ACad...hmmmm
I haven't run this on 9.1 as my clients have not received their copies yet.
Does anybody know if this has been sorted yet.

Lesson learnt in Revit humility.....

I haven't encountered the rotated view export issue before, but I do get other export missing linework issues. I followed this up with Autodesk again only the other week, and they are still working on it. Hopefully after 2 years and 2 releases it will be corrected for v10.

The other export issue that needs to be addressed is the hatch pattern export when views are True North vs. Project north. whe nI complained to support about this in 8.1 I got the pat answer upgrade to 9 and all complaints will be fixed. We could not do that at the time (Elrond I feel your pain) but have done so with new project. Guess what, the problem is still there even in 9.1

We have to create special export views and turn off all patterns or the hatch will appear in some wierd place. When the consultant erases the hatch the walls or floor etc go as well.
