View Full Version : Indicate window openings on plan?

Indicate window openings on plan - is there a recognized way to do this? We have drawings that show the schedules, and and a floor plan indicating the locations of the windows on plan. - to indicate the opening arrangements we need to also send an elevation drawing - the windows are all plain rectangular... no need for elevations really.
As the schedule contains the height information the elevations seem a bit pointless to send to the window Mfr - all he wants to know is which ones open...
Is there a recognized way to indicate this on plan - I suspect there isnt! I have just been putting OP, beside opening lights..

Not aware of any. How would you indicate which part of the window opened etc?
Can't you do a couple of type elevations? For example, I do a single elevation for a Top-hung fully-reversible window even when we have 3 or 4 different sizes and edit the dims on the elevation to include the different heights/widths.

Client is using all top hung only - plain rectangular windows.... Basically I am trying for a short cut as elevations seem a waste when the only thing that really differs is whether they open or not...putting "OP" at each opening one seems ok, would ike to have "FX" at fixed ones, but I am controlling the appearance with yes/no params and dont know how to get one off and one on....

Oh right, well surely having opening ones labeled is enough? Then you can put a standard note on the schedule saying "all windows to be fixed unless noted" or similar.
I think I'd just add a column to the schedule to note whether they are fixed or top hung and do it as a text parameter then cut and paste as necessary.
 Or if they are modelled as fixed or top-hung, then can't you just schedule the family types? You could even filter the schedule by family type to group the fixed ones together and the top-hung ones together....

...Indicate window openings on plan - is there a recognized way to do this?...Linear dimension styles have an option to show opening height. It appears below the dimension line. As for recognized...hmmm...

On small projects I put the size on the plans. SH3040 (Single Hung 3'x4') FX for fixed and HR for Horizontal Roller.

If you don't want to put a different window tag on the openers I would suggest a simple graphic change as part of the window family. Add a symbolic line or something elase (a little chevron pointing out perhaps?) that would visually identify the opener to the family and have its visibility dependant on opener as a yes/no parameter. I am assuming you have them typed as different windows when you insert them so it's no extra work on your part.

As Steve mentions, the dimension style will automatically give you the opening width and height information.

You can use a shared parameter that notes fixed or opening by type and then is reported in the window tag, altenatively, as Dimitri says in a separate family subcategory - "Drawn Window Annotation" - a handful of detail lines would inidcate F and O.
Finally, if you make an F and an O from model lines as separate families and then nest them into the main window family you should be able to switch their visibility by type quite easily and have them set to show only in plan.

Interesting approach. Have you done this in practice? Would you post the family?
Thanks in advance,
