WHEN DRAWING A RESIDENTIAL ROOF, I WANT TO CHANGE THE PLATE HEIGHT OF THE ROOF AT THE ENTRY TO BE 12' INSTEAD OF 9'. CAN THIS BE ACCOMPLISHED WITHOUT HAVING TO DRAW TWO SEPARATE ROOFS?

THANKS,

You can do any one of these 3 things.

1. Create a new level for the new roof height. This can be helpful if you have any walls that are hight but do not contact the roof. It is also heplful if you have any rooms that are above the other floor.
2. Create the new roof with an offset of 3'above the T.O.P. This will effectively raise the entire roof 3'
3. Draw the roof as an exttusion if possible. You can create a Refrence plane at 12' and draw your roof from there.

Hoep this helps.

P.S. my personal choice woule be #2. Most flexible. Just attach your walls to the roof above.

Another method for changing plate heights I have used is this:

Draw or pick your roof outline (magenta), right click on the roof egde you want to be a different height

Click Properties, you can now set the roof plate height or offset in the Properties box without having to draw a new roof or level.

However, since Revit is a levels based program, you may get more mileage out of using a level line to help down the road.

I'm getting mixed results (if it even works) trying to join two roofs at different levels. Is this even possible? I'm not trying to perfectly align slopes, but I want the lower roof to extend to the higher roof in the overlapped areas.

This doesn't sound like something you should normally have a problem with...post an image so we can see what you are trying to do exactly.

I think I have everything working. It's amazing what a night of sleep will clear up.

Here's a couple pictures of what I was having problems with...
