Has anyone come up with a way to make a void in a wall so that a medicine cabinet can be placed in a wall and the cabinet recess cuts the wall so it shows properly in plan. Someone suggested added a solid on the back end but the material needs to match the wall it is inserted in. ie Stud or Masonry. I want this to be a reusable family.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean about making the material match, but using a void is the way to do it. Check out the attached family I just whipped up quickly. There is a void in there that is controlled by the length, height and depth parameters. Use the "cut geometry" tool to carve out the wall inside the family and it will cut correctly when it used in a project.

That works for one item but I need to create a family and would like the cut geometry to work on placement of the madicine cabinet family. Is this possible. I tried doing a cut geometry on a family with a void and I can't pick the void in the family.
Any Ideas?

maybe I don't understand what you are getting at, but this family does exactly that??? When it is placed in a wall in a project the medicine cabinent cuts out the portion of that wall. :?

lol, it's South....Exit 4, just over the bridge from Philly. :)
Glad it worked, I though I was going crazy. Just remember, when creating voids in wall baes families, you have to use the cut geometry tool on the wall before loading into a project.
