Can anyone tell me what to charge per hour for
doing mapping with Autodesk Map?

Hi bobhientze,
The rates would be determined by a few factors:
1. What are the going rates for GIS technicians in your area.
2. What are the going rates for Engineers in your area (Here our billing rates are from 120.00 to 175.00 hr)
3. Depends, and this is the biggest, on if you are bidding lump sum or T&M.
And Finally, it depends on the amount of detail and precision required. Example, if they want a pretty picture with just main roads and county lines, you could get all of that data from a web server and port it over to CAD. However, the precision and quality would be minimal ( +/- 30 feet possibly closer). If they are going to purchase the data or develop it themselves and just want you to convert it to Map, the fees would then depend on what a Senior Designer would make in the Job Shop, usually $10 to 25 more than senior cad techs make full time.I worked contract for over ten years before I went back to full time design, made decent money, but not many friends where I worked. Most of them knew I was making more per check than them for the same work, but many of them didn't realize I was paying my own taxes and insurance out of that. If you like to travel and not stay in one spot for more than six months to a year, it may be worth looking into.
