Funny little issue that has been appearing. I have been getting Revit stalling on a number of my staffs machines and crashing whilst trying to open new views. The staff in question have say about 150 odd different views worked up on this project and i have a sneaking suspicion that at the point at which Revit is crashing they may have up to 50 or so different windows "open" and hidden. I am betting this is the issue.

They all hate having to manually close down windows. Is there some sort of toggle ( have looked and can't find ) that will mean only one window is open at a time?

Under " Windows" use the tool " Close Hidden Windows"

The more windows open, the more memory it takes. Closing hidden windows will definitely improve performance.

oOOoOOoo might have to look into that.... I usually try my best to keep less than 10 windows open at a time. I'm always switching between open views by pulling down the Windows menu and I hate when I have more than 9 windows open and it says More Windows... at the bottom, so then I have to open a list and pick from my open views.

Sometimes I swtich between views using Ctrl+Tab, but I'm going to give this a try tomorrow.

Yeah i know about the "close hidden windows" button. However that wasn't really the question. Its more is there a way to have it done automatically.? IE only 1 window is ever open, or abe a predertermined number so if you have it set for 5 and you try to open 6 it closes down the window least uesed or something. Most other packages have a control of this type to reduce the need to keep going to the menu bar to do so.

I know, but i have had a few staff lose a few hours of work not realising or paying attention of how many they have open until the program hangs on them. ( i too have hit the point where i have found a lot more windows were open than i thought)

I have a sneaking suspicion this may be a wishlist item though.

aww shoot, I thought it would work that way (close the open window whenever another one is opened)... I thought it would be like a menu item with a check mark beside it, either on or off. :(

Many have made "XX" a keyboard shortcut for Close Hidden Windows. Makes it easy to close those extra views!
