Anyone know if Autocad 2005-2006 can utilize dual processors?

Hi
Check out the following Technical Document on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -
ID: TS2030 - Multithreading or multiprocessor capabilities (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?id=2962159&linkID=2475323&siteID=123112)
Have a good one, Mike

From what I know about dual processors, most software does not take advantage of them. Takes some fairly sophisticated computer use to need dual processors. Im guessing something like video creation would benefit from the upscaled computing power. Great for the movie/video game industries.

I'm running dual Xeons, BUT, I'm using Inventor AND a metal forming simulation software called Dynaform, so I just set the process affinity on each to the 2 different processors.

I'm working on a 2.8Ghz P4 with Hyperthreading and the affinity is set to both processors and it seems to be working fine. Just make sure you use the proper operating system to recognise the dual processors, you need one of the NT based operating systems to recognise more than 1 CPU. Also if you use XP Home it'll only recognise 2 cpu's (I think) so if you have a hyperthreaded processor you should be fine but if you have dual hyperthreaded processors you won't be able to utilise either one of the processors or the hyperthreads.

Only XP Pro and 2K support dual processors. Home does not.

Just to clear up what I was saying earlier (as I was a bit vague on that) XP Home only supports 1 physical processor but it also supports 2 logical processors. ie if you're using a hyperthreaded processer it will show up and function in XP Home as 2 processors. XP Home will not run on 2 physical processors however.
XP Pro on the other hand supports up to 2 physical processors and 4 logical processors.
Therefore if you're running dual xeon hyper-threaded processors the only way to get the full use of them is through XP Pro.
