We keep having trouble saving to central. Even at the beginning of a session. Open local - STC - Unrecoverable error. Can't save.
Create new local from Central solves but then comes back later. Happens with two out of three users working on the same project. Any similar experiences? I'm in dire need.

Some things that might help.
Make sure everyone has everything in a central file first and backup files you might need to send to Adsk.
Open the central and save it using a different name as a new central file. Now try making new local files from this and see if the problem goes away.

Thanks, Aaron.

I began the process and will keep everyone posted. One thing though...Did a saveas from the old Central File to a New Central File. File size went from 51Meg to 69 Meg! WTF!! :screwy:

Someone noted that the number of open windows at the time of save may dramatically affect file size. I haven't had a chance to check this out but worth looking into. I don't worry too much about file size - just preformance while working.

Just had another crash. This time it was with the person who didn't crash before :screwy:
I remade all three locals when I made the new central. We are in trouble.

This problem was sent to support this morning. They told me 'just don't work on the project'. HA! I'll just go ahead and tell my bosses that the three of us can't work on the job because the file keeps crashing and we won't meet our already accelerated deadline. I feel like we're held hostage here. We are trying to excecute the "your file isn't crashing so go ahead and work until it does" maneuver. Really productive, this Revit.

Is there any particular task causing the crash? I had one instance where I tried to strech a repeating detail and the project would crash every time. The solution was to delete and redraw the repeating detail.

Don't think so. This is occurring with 3 different users doing 3 different tasks. I just spoke with support and they have the 'special' version of Revit that shows warnings we don't see. He says he sees some warnings and has sent it to development... So I'm waiting on pins and needles... :-( :-( :-(

Look in your journal file.. what's the error?

... special version of Revit that shows warnings we don't see. He says he sees some warnings and has sent it to development...Sure he wasn't referring to Tools > Review Warnings?

bowlingbrad

No. Support said that they have a version of Revit that reports errors/warnings differently than the "general public".

GDI is the Graphica Device Interface. Revit and the video are not getting along. Might try turning off hardware acceleration.

If you use Tools > Element IDs > Select by ID, what do some of those element IDs in the above post represent?

I don't know if I'm getting off topic but, here is an warining in the journal right when Revit starts:

' DBG_WARN: could not find meta key resource: line 1829 of MFC\KeyboardShortcuts.cpp.

Any takers? Is my Keyboard Shortcuts file screwed up too?

EDIT : Sorry, Wes -> we cross-posted. I'll look later. Thanks,

We JUST had this problem last week on the large messy church project file I had talked about a couple weeks ago. Saving changes from the local file to the central file caused no problems. It was when changes were brought from the central file to the local file that made it crash. If there were changes going both ways, then you were SOL.

This was in 7, and when we brought it into 8, we haven't had problems. Support told us it had something to do with people working on separate local files outside of the office and then coming back in and saving the changes, something about the files not communicating correctly, and it just steadily got worse and worse.

But since we brought the project into 8 we haven't had any problems.

Try this, try opening the central file, make a new local file, make some changes, and then try to see if you can STC. If it was anything similar to our problem, you should be able to do that fine since you will not be getting any changes from the central file, only sending changes TO the central file. If that is the case, then at least once person can work on the project at a time until the issue is resolved.

That's good to hear, Patrick. We're considering upgrading our monster project to RB8 and your report is heartening.

This seems to be what is happening. We started this project in 7 and 'upgraded' to 8. But this happened a few weeks after upgrading...Hmmm. I'll check this out further. By the way, what was Autodesk's solution? Did you sent the file to support?

patricks
2005-06-09, 07:28 PM
Yes we did send it to support, and they sent us the file back a few days later which was supposedly "fixed". However we had already moved on with the file, limping along with one user working on it in 7, and we had done too much to go back and use the "fixed" file.

However they said the problems the file had was fixed in RB8, and after bringing the file (the "old" file which had the problems in 7, not the "fixed" one) into 8 we haven't had any problems.

Are you having these problems in the latest build of 8?

bowlingbrad
2005-06-09, 07:36 PM
Yes, latest build....<pause>, <take breath>... A FEW DAYS!!!??? THIS IS REDICULOUS! We are already using 8.

Here is what we are WASTING OUR TIME ON NOW...

This all started (we think) when we placed a legend view in the project depicting generic components in plan. This is the only legend in the project that has components. All of the others are just text. I just deleted the legend and we think we can work now. Some STC's have worked (for two of us). I have been too afraid to open a new local file on my computer.

AHHH. Still happening, even without the legend. Below is image that displayed after the Unrecoverable error message. Factory, please, please, please, help. If it is something we did early on, please let us know. We need to complete this job!
