Can I turn off angular snaps on text?

I would like a street name to (obviously) run parallel to the lines that represent the street. These are very close to vertical but not quite. So every time I get the text rotated near to parallel to these lines, the text snaps to vertical and also changes direction to read up the page instead of down. Is there anyway to get around this problem (besides changing the direction the text reads)?

Use the rotate tool - not the rotate icon on the object.

Or zoom in closer... snaps are zoom level sensitive.

Or create an annotation - this can be aligned exactly to graphics using the align tool.
