I'm thinking of upgrading to 2006 because I believe you can link an entity (eg a point) to a table so if the point is relocated the coordinates are updated in the table.
What I'd like to know is, is how effective is this as it could save me a lot of time & sweat.

What I do now is throw a circle on a "no-plot" layer and link it's centre to the field in a table

Thanks, but I'm guessing that this can only be done in 2006, at the moment I'm running 2005
