View Full Version : Voids cutting railings?

I have a custom railing of a C-channel that I use on steel stairs, and I was going to use an in-place void to trim the top of the stringer where it sticks up past the floor level just a bit. However if I create an in-place void, it won't let me cut the geometry of the stringer. Is this possible?

...Is this possible?...No it isnt'...in-place voids will only cut host geometry or other solids in the same family and you can't create an in-place railing family, no such category.

Just wanted to confirm that this still is not possible.

Any solutions to custom balusters out there? I have heard of curtain walls, but how do you deal with the angled portions of stairs?

Edit the profile of the wall to follow the angle of the stair.

That works for the top rail, but what about intermediate horizontals?

This is the sort of thing that badly needs fixing :( Allow Joining geometry with stairs and railings!

Well, when you select your curtain wall and edit the grid layout, you can have a different angle for grid 1 and 2 (grid 1 can be slanted and grid 2 can be horizontal...)

Yeah. I agree with you.

Any change here? I need the channel profile but I don't need it to go below the ground floor.
