Stairs Beyond Display incorrectly

The stair run that is above the cut plane is showing solid. I can't even turn it OFF with the visibility settings. Any thoughts?

Under Vis graphics settings, turn off visibility of stairs and stringers beyond cut line.

If that doesn't work, post a file with just the stair.

Re-created stair and problem went away. Why is this happening?????
