I have made a massing model of a design that I am working on. I am just having a problem figuring out how to model one specific piece. I don't want to use a curtain system because of the grid lines. The form is a filleted corner between a roof and a wall. It sweeps along a curve. I made an in place wall family but I am not getting the results I am looking for. I have attached two images; one of the massing model and one of the building model showing the piece that I am having problems with. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated!

Two thoughts...
1. Use the linework tool to remove the "joint" lines on the current in place family.
2. Create an in-place family for the entire wing (roof/floor/wall) You may need some voids to accomplish it.
Also remember that revit works best when you know how to build it first. What materials are you using for floor wall and roof? It looks cool when it is monolithic, but are you actually going to build it that way.

I thought about that. The problem with the "in-place" family is that I can't figure out how to apply different materials to different faces, i.e. interior material & exterrir material. Anyone have any knowledge on that?

You paint the material on with the paint command.

I would try a series of solid blends. 1 for the exterior layer, and one for the interior, each including the whole wall, parapet, roof assembly.

I may try that. That's a really good idea. I am not doing CDs so I don't need it to be perfect. I am using this design for a design / rendering competition. It's going into Viz as soon as the modeling is complete anyway. I was curious if I was missing something in modeling techniques. Thanks a lot for your help!
It appears to me that if this is not for CD's, the area you are having trouble with might be accomplished with an extrusion. As far as the material difference goes, could you just apply a separate extrusion on the outside of the shell and the inside of the shell that has a minimal thickness to it. This would allow you to apply separate interior and exterior finishes without compromising the monolithic form.
Very nice by the way. It reminds me of the "Zip-Up" enclosure system by Richard Rogers.

Thanks a lot! I fingured it out. I used the sweep that I was using but made a couple of viod forms to trim it. To get the materials applied correctly I just used the paint command when editing the sweep. It worked out fine as you can see by the attached image, which is a WIP. Thank you to all who helped me resolve this issue. BTW no one else is using Revit in the competiton that I am entering. Hopefully this will help gain suport of the product.

Hi Taylpr,
Looks great. Can you post or send me your massing model? I'd like to look at something.
thanks,

now thats impressive - when a developer asks a customer for one of their models
