Why does Revit leave a small (around 1/2") gap between the ends of the beams and other objects. Is there a way to get rid of that gap so the edge of a beam meets face to face to another object without leaving a gap? please help. thanks.

There are lots of threads covering this subject. Just do a search for beams, and you'll
get a grip of hits.
Here are a couple that deal directly with your situation:

At least in Revit Structure, and I presume Revit Building course view representations for beams can now set the end of the stick member distance, in the Structural Settings dialog box.
In Medium and Fine view if you highlight the member you will see shape handles so that you can then drag the end of the member to a spot close to the intersecting member or column.

In Revit Structure, Settings>Structural Settings>Symbolic Representation Settings, you can determine the symbolic cutback distance.
Hope this helps.

I doesn't in Revit Building though. So annoying. I am doing a model for a competition and I can't get the structure to touch. I have beams and joists floating in space. There has got to be a way to resolve this. It would take too long for me to make in place families.
