I have 2006 LT and I can't program the mouse buttons (5 button mouse). I've been through 3 mice, 3 tech support people, all to no avail. Is there a 5 button mouse that works out of the box? Ted

These sorts of question are far easier to answer if you provide details. What manufacturer? What driver? Do the buttons work at all? Or only fail in AutoCAD LT?

I'm running a P4 with 1G RAM, and XP Home.
I tried a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0 with the latest Intellipoint 5.2 Driver. Had Zoom and Pan without driver; lost pan with driver. Called MS tech support and tried various things to no avail. Also tried the 5.0 driver that came with mouse. Same.
Tried Micro Innovations 5 button mouse. Had the same results as above. Their tech support said they don't update drivers. Said it was the same driver as Win '98.
Then tried a Kensington mouse. Zoom & Pan without driver; no Pan with driver but was able to program button 4 to call up "distance". Tech support was no help.
Also played with mbuttonpan setting for each mouse.
I'm going to call HP and see if they have a compatible mouse.
By Pan I mean press and hold wheel button to pan, then release.

Let me see if I might be able to help ....
I have found the Intellimouse to be quite simply the best mouse on the market right now. You can specify what the mouse functions are for all 5 buttons through your "Control Panel ---> Mouse" or through your Intellimouse access on the Programs Menu. The Intellimouse works right out of the box, though once you do install the driver, the original settings might change. You can always change them back.
Furthermore, you can specify, within AutoCAD, (full blown or LT) what function each mouse button has. You can do this through the CUI menu system as follows:
1. Type CUI on the status bar and press enter
2. On the top left of the screen you'll see various expandable menus. Select "Mouse Buttons" and expand it.
3. There you can see that you can modify each function that the mouse has. You can customize up to 10 buttons for each option listed there. To gain more info on how to use the CUI just click this link:

All mice work out of the box fairly well. Once the drivers are installed, it's simply a matter of the features that each mouse has available to them, and the brand that each user prefers. There have been changes from 2005 to 2006 and I think that's partly to blame for your troubles, butonce you become informed on the powers of the CUI things might become easier for you.
If this is not what the problem is, let me know and we'll try to get this thing fixed ASAP.
Let me know if this helps in any way!

Just out of curiosity, does this allow one to assign the ESC key to a mouse button?
I've had a Microsoft Trackball Optical for some time now, and have been using it with Intellimouse 4.1 drivers. I assigned one of the mouse buttons to function as an ESC key, and have gotten extremely used to it.
I just tried to upgrade to the new Intellimouse 5.2 drivers, in the hopes that it would fix this problem where the scroll wheel gets hooked to scroll bars inappropriately, killing the default zoom function. (The problem occurs in Autocad, as well as in other programs like Paint Shop Pro.) Unfortunately, Microshaft has REMOVED FUNCTIONALITY from the new drivers, and ESC can no longer be assigned to mouse buttons. So I was forced to revert to the 4.1 drivers to get my ESC back.
(Still on 2004, but not for much longer... :? )
