Maybe it is just me but, I can not for the the life of me find the generic elevation tag family file. It is the tag that comes standard with the default template. I would really like to modify it to match the section tag.
Any suggestions?

In the project browser, under Families, Annotation Symbols, you will see a list of all the loaded annotation tags. Select and go to propertities for the tag to check it out.

In the 6.0 Metric template, its called M_View Title, but I don't know about the imperial template.

I believe the elevation symbol (which shows up in the generic Level 1 plan view) is a system object, for which there is probably no separate family listing in the project browser. I found this out when upgrading some projects started in Revit 3, which did not have the elevation tags already loaded. But beegee is right; you can change its appearance from square to round.
