Modifying Toposurface with Subregions

Is it not adviseable to edit a toposurface after a subregion has been applied to it?

I have tried three times unsuccessfully, after 12 minute's of waiting for 6 new points to establish, it crashes on me "program not responding".

Should I remove the subregion before I change the toposurface?

I've always been able to do it fine. Subregions may slow the process but it shouldn't crash it.
