Unable to select dimensions in Modelspace

Ok using the linear dimension command. I have inserted 2 dimensions (one vertical one horizontals). After I placed them I selected them and went to properties where I inserted a space for both in the text override then I set the layer from 0 to the a-anno-dims layer. After that one turns white and the other disappears. You can’t select either one but you can go to paper space and you can select and view them fine. I have crashed AutoCAD twice now while work with it this way. It crashed when I did a regen as well. I have run an audit twice it’s clean.

Anybody got an idea?
