Cant take it anymore, something has to be done with the view range setting. Makes absolutely no sence and rarely ever works.

Perhaps this (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=7472) will help out some.

LOL - i know exactly where you're coming from. I must admit however that whenever i've got to feeling that way i end up finding out that it was something i've done. (Underlays being attached is always a good one).

Did you come from an AutoCAD background into Revit? If so, I can understand your frustrations. (So did I)
Hang in there. In Autocad, "paper space" was an option I tried, didn't work
well, so I abandoned it (I understand its better now). In Revit, you do not have that option.
You have a model with views into that model.
The view range does give good control over what is displayed, but not without thought on how to set up the model to work with the views, including setting up object styles correctly and the visibility controls in families. I think your frustration is more on the lack of an explaination on how the the view range options work rather than with the view range itself.

Sorry, I've tried, I really have but I can bite my tongue no longer...
View range works and makes sense. This is how I see it.
Plans are just sections in a horizontal plane. That section must pass through the model at some height ideally to pass through the majority of doors and windows therefore a height of between 1250mm and 2000mm would work fine (even hand drawn plans use this concept). This is the view range cut plane. You can also 'localise' view range with plan regions.
Refer to other posts for more details.
If you have a specific problem with view range then lets hear it, I (and many others) will try to help. I find blanket negativity totally counterproductive (although I have a VCR that always records the wrong program. I set it for CSI:New York and I get half a cartoon and a Hungarian recipe - IT Sucks!)

If you've got a minute I wouldn't mind the recipe.

You can have it when you get your avatar animated into some sort of amusing dance!

I hear your cry's regarding view plains, I have been there too.
As a problem occurs only every so often, I was forgetting what I did to fix it every time.
What I did was print off a section then go through the help file and literally draw on the section where the various planes occurred, relative to floor levels etc..
Then I stuck that on the wall beside my monitor.
And now I look at that when something goes wrong with the planes.
Ok, so its a dumba** approach, but it works

I suggest a feature that would allow you to select an element, then select an upper limit (possible levelor element) a lower limit ( possible level or element) and then Vavoom.... I see exactly what i want.
Does this merit Wishlist status?

Hum...but I thought that's how view range works. Except you don't select an element but set the cut plane height, upper limit and lower limit for the view. If you have to select elements you will go crazy..You can use "plan region" to change the setting for a selected portion of your plan. It really is quite simple and works very well.
I am still not clear on what kind of problem you are having. What are you seeing or not seeing? Can you be more specific?

I have to agree that I don't find it particularly difficult to follow... do you have different levels that you want shown on the same plan perhaps?

Speaking of wishlists....
I would like to see a graphical representation of view range in elevation (perhaps when you pick the level line of level head) with grips so you can drag the various planes. That would make it even easier!
Whaddyathink?
