I am having trouble selecting mtext in my drawing. I have attached it for some of you experts to figure it out. The font style is Arial, and some of the mtext is selectable but not all. Please help.

First I tried a regenall and that did not work and then I closed the drawing and reopened it and that did not work. Next, I change the font to something new and was able to select the text for editing. I then changed the font back to Arial and I am now able to select it for now, but still have not found out what happened originally. Any input would be much appreciated.

Maybe point me to the right direction of the mtext you are unable to select...

Most of the pipe labels running down the center of the building. Now I have discovered another problem, after changing the style to something different and then back again I was able to select it initially however after a regenall I was unable to select it again.

I am encountering the same problem..unfortunately, I am not sure what to do about it. The few tricks I know didn't work...
Is this vanilla AutoCAD? What version?

I've done a regenall and changed the style but it works fine for me. I am able to modify and update the text. I modified some of the text and posted it back to show you. Maybe I am looking at the wrong text string.

AutoCAD 2006 on winXP pro. I do not really like this font however when used it, it does not assume the lineweight that is assigned to the layer in my ctb file and is a TTF that all my clients have. Looks like I will have to change back to the non standard font and send it with the drawings. Thanks for looking into this with me and keep posted if you find a solution.

The main pipes down the middle of the building are the problem at this point.

I can select, edit or delete all the pipe labels with no problem. [A2006, XPpro].

As I stated before, so can I ... so I have no ideas for a solution to your problem ....

I used to be able to select the text as well but as I started to add more content to the drawing, things started to go away. I created this info days ago and I had been working on some tables lately and now I cannot select the text. Thanks to everyone who has been looking into this for me.

Check out the following Technical Document on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -

What happens if you use the QSelect command to create a selection set of the "bad" MText Objects?
Note - Like others have already reported within this thread... I was also able to select the "bad" MText Objects without a problem.
Have a good one, Mike

I would llike to bring up this issue again and see if there has been any resolution. Another thread (MAJOR TABLE BUG for me.....since 20050) also noted this bug.
We have a drawing that has the conditions listed in this thread (a true type font which we typically don't use) and the other thread listed above (a table). We recently upgraded to 2006.
If anyone has heard of a resolution, please let me in on the secret. Thanks

Please post the drawing file you make reference to above, so we can take a look at this one...

Here it is.
The problem does not become apparent until you have worked on the drawing for some time - happens maybe every 10 minutes or so, at times. We have found to workaround the problem it is necessary to 'shake-up' the drawing in some way. For example - open and close the drawing; freeze and then unfreeze the text layer, etc.
This situation takes on the characteristics of this thread that we are in and also the characteristics of this thread (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=21330&highlight=MAJOR+TABLE)because of the tables that we started using.
Thanks for taking a moment to look at this.

I have spent a while ( approx 30 minutes ), mucking about with the above drawing file...
Sorry, I am unable to reproduce the problem you are experiencing at your end - no matter what I have tried so far, I am able to Select the Text Objects you highlighted as "unselectable before I saved it".

Well, thanks for your effort Mike. At least we found a workaround solution to the problem....
Maybe it has to do something with graphics cards or something - who knows. We will continue to try to work this out with our IT guy and I will report if we find a reason and resolution for the problem.
Thanks again!

I am having the same problem. If anyone finds a permanent solution please let us know. This is driving me nuts.
But thanks for posting a workaround!!
THIS THREAD (http://discussion.autodesk.com/thread.jspa?threadID=482289) doesn't have a solution, but it has a couple of ideas. Especially intriguing is selecting the text through a viewport. I haven't been able to reproduce the problem, so I can't test it though.

I had this similar problem before. It happened when I somehow copy/pasted a group of line objects with text and it just so happened that some of the texts have their layers locked. And when I pasted it the text were inserted but couldn't select them. What was worse was everytime I regen they disappeared. When I do a command they reappeared. I think the file got corrupted and I had to transfer everything to another file making sure I don't select the porblematic text. Then life was normal again.

I've got it! This problem has been killing me for awhile now, found the solution in some forum as a suggestion that noone tried or replied to - change your WHIPTHREAD system variable to 0. Don't know why this would work, as I've only got a dual core, not dual processors, but it does. (as least for me).
