Is it possible to "tell" the ceiling grid to start at a particular point? At one corner of the room for instance?

Yeah just "tab" until only one protion of the gid highlights and then move it to where you want. Or you can use the alligh command if you prefer....

And Rotate if you'd like, too...if ceiling hosted lights are in the grid, they will rotate also.

Does it by default center a full tile in the room, or center a grid in the room? Is there a way to change the default behavior?

I think it centers a grid line. Can't remember for sure.

But shifting the grid is really difficult....first select each and every grid line individually while holding CTRL.....

just kidding! Grab one grid line and move it a distance, and all the other grids update, including lights placed in the grid! If it centers the grid in a 2x4 grid, grab a line on the 2 foot spacing and move it 1 foot. Ceiling tile is now at the center, not the grid, Repeat for the 4 foot side if necesary.
